The author explains how David Lance, retired from the East India Company, called his 93 acre estate Chessel, and how it was purchased in 1911 by the Yeovil firm Southampton Garden Suburb Ltd. He outlines the construction of individual properties, and their occupants, resulting in a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the area. A book of some interest to all those resident there.
