Chris Boulton – Memories of Harefield

Chris Boulton, born in 1917, treated the Harefield House Estate, with the permission of the owners, as his own for exploring, hunting rabbits, watching and learning about nature.

Although he worked in Southampton Docks he was a ‘countryman’ at heart, an active member of Hampshire Wildlife Trust, The National Trust, Southampton RSPB, and Butterfly Conservation. He wrote many articles on country subjects and recorded several tapes of his memories.

This tape recalls Harefield from its days as a country estate around 1920 through to the building of the council housing estate.

Chris died in 2004.
