The Angel Inn

412 Bitterne Road

The Angel Inn dates back to the 1840’s when William Pottinger presided over the bar. It was also once a coaching inn with the stables and a yard for carriages situated behind the pub. In the second photo in the gallery below, the entrance to the stables is visible.

The Rogers family ran the inn during the late 1930’s into the 40’s. The landlord’s grandson, Bernard Rogers, recalls his experiences whilst living in the pub when war broke out:

Demolished in 1972 to make way for new shops. The site is now occupied by Sainsbury’s. Once a Coopers Brewery pub but was a Watneys pub in 1972.
